RORS00127: Satchinez: project launch conference
The first project of the Excelsior Association – Timiș branch, implemented through the IPA Romania-Serbia Program with the participation of three partners: MyNature Association (RO), the Provincial Secretariat for Urbanism and Environmental Protection EKOVOJVODINA (SRB), and the Local Administration of Bela Crkva (SRB)
The Association for the Promotion of Natural and Cultural Values of Banat and Crișana “Excelsior” – TM Romania (RO), together with its partners MyNature (RO), the Provincial Secretariat for Urbanism and Environmental Protection EKOVOJVODINA (SRB), and the Local Administration of Bela Crkva (SRB), has taken the first steps in implementing the project “Cross-Border Cooperation Network for the Sustainable Use of Natural Resources,” known by the acronym Green Path. The project is co-financed by the European Union through the Interreg IPA Romania-Serbia Program.
On June 16, 2025, starting at 12:00, the project launch conference was held at the Cultural Center in Satchinez. The event also included a field visit organized in the project’s implementation area.
During the conference, the local communities were introduced to the objectives of this Romanian-Serbian cross-border initiative and the benefits it aims to bring for environmental improvement.
The Excelsior Association – Timiș branch and its partners plan to revitalize this natural habitat by creating better nesting conditions for more than 40 bird species of community interest, while also reconnecting people with nature and promoting sustainable development. Over the next two years, the project will implement direct interventions such as improving habitat conditions (on 46 hectares), installing site-specific facilities (on 3 hectares), and promoting the Satchinez Marshes Nature Reserve and the Natura 2000 Satchinez Marshes sites—protected natural areas of major importance for the Timiș community (target audience: 940 people).
An important outcome of the Romanian-Serbian project team will be the development of a joint strategy: a unified system for monitoring air and water quality, which will directly benefit local communities in the cross-border region.
Complementing the Satchinez Marshes, another important natural area lies 100 kilometers away, significant for the biodiversity and geography of Banat. The Karaš-Nera natural areas, located near the town of Bela Crkva, serve as another key refuge for the fauna inhabiting the Romania-Serbia cross-border region.
